A key piece of equipment has been commissioned in Tyrecycle’s new off the road tyre and conveyor belt recycling facility in Port Hedland.

The aptly named ‘T-Rex’ off the road tyre cutter from Salvadori Recycling is the first piece of equipment of its kind in Australia.

The new facility, which will also be the only one of its type in the country, will have an initial 12,000 tonne per annum processing capacity, pre-processing the off the road tyres for further refinement at Tyrecycle’s East Rockingham site.

Tyrecycle Chief Executive Officer Jim Fairweather said the installation of the ‘T-Rex’ marks an important milestone for the new facility.

“We’ve been working closely with mining sector partners on improving the industry’s management of end of life off the road tyres, and commissioning this equipment is an important part of a more sustainable future,” he said.

“We have strategically located the new facility in Port Hedland to save mining companies in the Pilbara the costs of transporting these tyres to our site at East Rockingham.”

Tyrecycle recently announced a partnership with Alcoa, the first contracted agreement with a mining operator from the South West of WA, to recycle its off the road tyres.
