ResourceCo, a recognised leader in Australia’s resource recovery and re-manufacturing sector, has taken another significant step in advancing the delivery of lower-cost, renewable alternative energy solutions with a new senior executive appointment.

The company has announced the appointment of Henry Anning as Chief Executive Officer of ResourceCo’s specialised energy division, a business unit dedicated to supporting the manufacturing sector and other high-energy users with long-term, cost-effective renewable energy solutions.

Proven expertise in bioenergy and waste-to-energy

Mr Anning brings extensive experience in bioenergy and energy-from-waste financing, having most recently led the Clean Energy Finance Corporation’s (CEFC) bioenergy and waste-to-energy programs. He is also a former Associate Director at Low Carbon Australia, where he focused on bioenergy sector finance and industry engagement.

This depth of experience will support ResourceCo’s continued growth and help elevate its behind-the-meter waste-to-energy solutions, enabling industrial customers to reduce energy costs while transitioning away from fossil fuels.

“I’m delighted to be joining the leading provider of alternative waste fuels in Australia at a time when manufacturers and high-energy users are crying out for real solutions.”

“The waste to energy sector is entering an exciting growth phase, with businesses looking for genuine alternatives to rising gas and electricity costs, which have stung them over the last five years. Some businesses have experienced a 400 per cent increase in gas prices.

“ResourceCo provides a quality long-term energy partner that has a proven track record in helping businesses reduce costs while demonstrating responsible environmental management,” Mr Anning says.

A decade of experience delivering alternative fuel solutions

ResourceCo has been operating alternative fuel plants for more than 10 years, working alongside major organisations including Adelaide Brighton Cement, SUEZ, Cleanaway and Boral.

The company manufactures process engineered fuel (PEF) using materials recovered from residential hard waste, commercial and industrial (C&I) waste streams, residuals from recycling processes, and selected construction and demolition (C&D) materials. These inputs are primarily waste timber, along with non-recyclable plastics, cardboard, paper and textiles.

ResourceCo’s state-of-the-art alternative fuel facilities recover more than 90 per cent of incoming materials, significantly reducing the volume of waste sent to landfill while creating valuable energy resources.

Expanding renewable heat infrastructure for industry

Looking ahead, ResourceCo plans to develop new energy plants incorporating biomass boilers that utilise waste timber-based PEF. These facilities are designed to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower overall emissions for energy-intensive industries.

“It’s about providing a unique solution to the requirement for heat in manufacturing and providing businesses with an over 90 per cent renewable heat source as an alternative to gas, coal or electricity.

“For example, we can deliver a real solution for businesses with existing boilers using between 100 thousand gigajoules and a petajoule of natural gas – by installing between a five megawatt and 40-megawatt waste wood boiler.

“These energy plants provide a critical piece of long-term infrastructure that delivers a fixed cost solution for our customers. It’s a win/win in terms of business and environmental outcomes.”

Under ResourceCo’s delivery model, the company funds, builds, owns and operates the energy plant, removing capital expenditure and operational risk for the end user. Large energy consumers receive lower-cost renewable heat or electricity through long-term supply agreements, or alternatively, ResourceCo can supply fuel alone under a long-term arrangement.

Trusted credentials across Australian industry

To date, ResourceCo has re-purposed more than 50 million tonnes of material, delivering tailored resource recovery and energy solutions across a broad range of sectors, including industrial and manufacturing, energy, construction, defence, demolition and rehabilitation, government, major infrastructure, mining, transport, waste and water.

Importantly, ResourceCo’s alternative fuels comply with the requirements of the Australian Government’s Clean Energy Regulator under the Emissions Reduction Fund, reinforcing the company’s commitment to regulatory compliance and environmental responsibility.

The Australian manufacturing sector uses approximately 390 petajoules of gas for heat each year. This is equivalent to the amount of electricity consumed by 16 million Australian households annually (Department of the Environment and Energy, Australian Energy Update, August 2018).
